How do you determine which prep product to begin with?
When choosing a shu uemura primer I analyzing the texture and density of the hair. With more coarse of thick hair I recommend moisture to soften, smooth and add shine to the hair. I often blend products together to achieve the results I am looking for. For this texture of hair I like to blend Blowdry Beautifier for thick hair with Essence Absolue. For a client with a finer texture of hair I recommend satin design to prime and use Ample Angora for volume and fullness.
Do you have a favorite go-to?
One shu product I cannot live without and use on everyone is Texture Wave. This gene is a bottle acts almost as a dry shampoo by controlling the oils in the hair and it builds volume and texture. Texture Wave gives a flexible hold with a weightless finish.
When building body and volume in hair, is there a product combo that you love behind the chair or suggest to clients?
When building volume and body into fine hair my must have combination is Fiber Lift and Volume Maker. Fiber Lift is applied on towel dried hair before styling and Volume Maker is dusted on the roots once the hair is dry for that optimum tease, grip and hold. Volume Maker is great to touch up hair and add volume throughout the day.
How do you think the precious ingredient story plays into speaking to products with clients?
There is a story behind each and every Shu product. My favorite one I always like to share when educating in class or demonstrating to my clients is behind Ample Angora which is a volumizing mousse. Our brilliant marketing team came up with the name. Ample obviously means, plenty, enough to go around and angora is referred to as the angora bunny, which is the fluffiest white bunny. Its fur is immensely full and soft. Ample Angora mousse expands when you dispense it in your hands.
What makes Shu so appealing to clients and stylists?
Shu Uemura is a unique and luxurious brand. All of the products highlight rare and special ingredients. I fell in love with Shu and just knowing how wonderful these products are and how incredible the hair looks and feels when using them is amazing.
Which two products can you not live without? And why?
I cannot live without Texture Wave, Essence Absolue and Cotton Uzu. Texture Wave make the hair workable with texture and body. Essence Absolue hydrates/restores the hair as a leave in treatment. Cotton Uzu aids in controlling fly-aways and gets rid of static in the hair and serves as the ultimate lightweight molding cream.
