Q+A:
How do you determine which prep product to begin with?
Using a primer to prep the hair can really improve the performance of your styling products. When determining what prep product to use I like to consider what the hair needs to have a more balanced finish and what end result I am looking for. If the hair lacks nourishment and has frizz, I would choose Shiki Worker Blow Dry Primer to prep with. If I want to create an end result with texture and volume, I love to prep with Muroto Volume Hydro-Texturizing Hair Mist.
Do you have a favorite go-to?
Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil. I use it on almost every client that sits in my chair. It has so many benefits and smells amazing!
How do you think the precious ingredient story plays into speaking to products with clients?
When you learn about the history, uses, and benefits of these precious ingredients and how they have been time tested and passed down through cultures and continents it creates a curiosity and connection to the brand.
What makes Shu so appealing to clients and stylists?
I think the rich heritage of ingredients and the legacy of Mr. Shu Uemura himself really brings a connection that is magnetic. The products not only perform well, but also feel amazing the hair and offer added benefits.
Which two products can you not live without? And why?
Moya Hold Hair Spray is absolutely my favorite hair spray. I love that I can layer it to increase the amount of hold I need yet still brush through it to rework the hair. Everyone loves this finishing spray but especially my finer hair textures because its not sticky and doesn't ever feel heavy. It would be hard to live without Kaze Wave Curl Mousse. The dense foam controls and sculpts curls beautifully and I happen to work with a lot of curls! Whether I am letting the natural curl pattern air dry or doing a curly blowout it supports and holds the curl without frizz.
