Krista has been a hairdresser for 6 years and has always been working towards being an educator. She loves to inspire other hairdressers the way she’s constantly inspired behind the chair. As a former Shu Sensei and now a Shu Uemura Artist Krista, can’t wait to see where this journey takes her! When she’s not in the salon she can be can be found spending time with my loved ones. Being active and busy is a necessity for her.

Q+A:

How do you determine which prep product to begin with?

I always make sure that I examine the hair fully before decided what to prime with. If the client has a few different needs, I would choose the number 1 need such as repair or dryness.

Shu Uemura Tsuyu Sleek Blow Dry Oil

Do you have a favorite go-to?

My favorite go to is definitely tsuyu sleek. I do a lot of blowouts behind the chair, and it truly helps speed up the blowdry time so I can make the most out of my day and make sure my guests are in and out to get back to their busy lives.

How do you think the precious ingredient story plays into speaking to products with clients?

I think the precious ingredient story just adds an extra curiosity to the products. Just simply saying a product is good for revitalization doesn’t quite give the same experience as talking about the Ashitaba plant and how in Japanese culture if you ingest the sap they believe it extends your life by years and that is so much more impactful and makes them really think that wow what could this do for my hair? I absolutely love that part of the story telling.

What makes Shu so appealing to clients and stylists?

I really think the story telling plays a huge part, but also just the precious ingredients themselves due to the innovation. Additionally, the haircare, oils and styling all perform beautifully in the hair.

Shu Uemura Ishi Sculpt Sculpting Hair Paste

Which two products can you not live without? And why?

My two products I can’t live without are izumi tonic and wata wave. The rice water in izumi tonic starts strengthening your hair from day one and for a girl who loves their long hair I need my hair to stay super strong, so it continues to grow healthily. wata wave has been one of my favorites since I started using shu uemura. The dry texture makes it buildable without the grittiness which is also huge for me because I only cleanse my hair once a week.
