pro tips for best hairstyles to revive
second day hair
to maintain your hair color In between salon appointments
How often should you be washing your hair? The answer depends on a variety of factors including your hair type, hair texture and whether or not your hair is color-treated. The average recommendation from hairstylists is every 2-3 days to ensure you are not stripping your hair of its natural oils and maintaining balance on your scalp.
Reviving second, third, or even fourth day hair can be tricky. Lucky for us, our Shu Uemura National Hair Artist, April Tocco, is sharing her pro tips for extending the life of your hairstyle for the days in between shampoos.
Sulfate free shampoos and conditioners help maintain the natural oils on your scalp, leaving your hair feeling more moisturized, preserving shine and keeping your hair color fresher, longer. Whether you are a cool blonde, vibrant red head or a bold brunette, our sulfate-free Color Lustre shampoo and Color Lustre conditioner prevents your hair color from fading, protects the hair fiber, and balances the scalp's natural oils.
how to properly shampoo
and condition your hair:
To shampoo the hair, add a quarter size of Color Lustre shampoo to your hand and use your fingers to massage shampoo into the hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly and follow up with Color Lustre conditioner or Color Lustre hair mask.
To condition the hair, apply two pumps of Color Lustre conditioner into your palm. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you may need more or less than two pumps to evenly coat the hair. Apply the conditioner to the hair by massaging through the mid-lengths and ends. Rinse thoroughly.
For a deeper condition or if you have thicker hair, add a quarter size amount of Color Lustre hair mask. to your hand and apply the mask to the hair by massaging through the mid-lengths and ends. Let the mask sit in the hair for 5-10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
After shampooing and conditioning your hair in the shower, prep your hair for
your day 2 style by sectioning your hair into braids. Braids are the perfect way
to get multiple hairstyles out of one shampoo, adding effortlessly textured
waves to the hair without using heat – and you can sleep in them too!
Prep hair for braids using Kaze Wave
curl mousse and Essence Absolue
Nourishing Protective Hair Oil.
Mix 2-3 applications (golf ball size) of Kaze Wave curl mousse, depending on the thickness of your hair (fine hair will need less) with 1 pump of Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil in your palm and apply the product combination to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair.
Kaze Wave curl mousse gives the perfect amount of texture, a flexible hold, defines curls, and provides a weightless finish while Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil provides added hydration, resulting in a soft touch and high shine. Mixing the two products together provides a customized, textured and smooth look the next day.
Section hair into four even sections.
Part hair from the middle of the forehead down the middle of the scalp all the way to the nape of your neck. Then part hair from ear to ear, creating four sections around the head and use clips to section off.
French braid each section of hair,
beginning with the front right section.
French braid the front right section by starting at the top middle of the section near the part. French braid using three strands, about one inch sections each. Braid to the ends of the hair, leaving ends out for an undone look.
Take out braids and lightly brush
through the hair.
For an easy day 2 style, take braids out to reveal natural heat-less waves. The texture from the undone braids will act as the perfect base for your day 2 style.
Apply essence absolue universal balm
Essence Absolue Universal Balm is the perfect remedy for second day hair. It nourishes the ends of dry hair, controls frizz, and adds a bit of shine, moisture and softness without feeling heavy in the hair.
April’s Pro Tip: I love using Essence Absolue Universal Balm for more than just the hair. You can also apply the balm to your eyebrows, cuticles, and hands. It is truly universal! It is the perfect companion to keep in your purse throughout the day to touch up dry ends, dry hands, or flyaway hair!
Use a one-inch curling iron and begin
lightly curling your hair using the same
sections from day 1.
Create loose curls that add texture,
pieciness, and definition to the natural
waves from the day 1 braids.
By day 3, your hair may be in need of a refresh. Whether
you’re dealing with flat hair or feeling oily, using a texture spray
can help revive day old styles and unwashed hair.
Refresh day 2 waves with Texture
Wave texturizing spray.
Spray Texture Wave 8-10 inches away from the head
onto dry hair. Work the product into the hair with your fingers, scrunching the hair while you go to add texture and body.
Texture Wave texturizing spray will give texture, body, and hold while its demi-matte finish will help diminish the look of oil. Texture Wave instantly adds volume and root lift with a light and airy finish to revive first, second, or third day hair.
